Festoon Lighting Hire Across the UK
We supply festoon lighting hire for events of every size, from small back-garden weddings through to multi-day festivals. Our stock uses rubber-cable LED festoon — the kind built for outdoor use across long event days, not the consumer-grade fairy lights you’d find at a garden centre. The cabling is rated for weather, the LEDs are warm-white for an even tone, and the spacings work for both decorative coverage and useful working light.
Although we’re based in Chelmsford, Essex, we install festoon lighting across the UK — regularly working in London, Hertfordshire, Kent, Suffolk, and the wider South East. For larger or further-afield events, logistics are factored into the quote so there are no surprises.
What’s Included in Festoon Hire from Spotlight Sound
Every festoon installation includes more than the lights themselves. As standard you get:
- Rubber-cable LED festoon strings — specified to length, with appropriate spacings for your venue
- 4m steel installation poles — for clean, even runs across open spaces
- Weatherproof connections and cabling — rated for outdoor use, not retrofitted
- Site survey and installation by our team — we plan the layout around how the space will actually be used on the day
- De-rig and clearance — we remove everything after the event with no mess left behind
- Full risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) on request
Festoon Lighting Hire for Weddings, Festivals & Garden Parties
Different events use festoon in different ways. The most common buyer types we work with:
Wedding Festoon Lighting
Festoon is the most popular outdoor wedding lighting we supply. It works for ceremony spaces, drinks receptions, marquee entrances, and dance floors. We size the run to your venue and install it so it looks intentional rather than improvised. For marquee weddings, we coordinate with your marquee company to make sure the festoon and the structure work together.
Festival & Outdoor Event Festoon
For festivals, fetes, and outdoor events, festoon defines the public spaces — food courts, walkways, bars, family areas. We use heavier-duty cabling for sites with longer runs and more wear, and the poles are properly anchored for sustained outdoor use. We’ve supplied festoon for events from small village fetes through to multi-day festivals.
Garden Party & Private Event Festoon
For private gardens and back-garden parties, festoon works around what’s already there — over patios, between trees, along fences. We do a site survey first so we know what we’re working with and how to install it without damaging the garden.
Why Hire Festoon Lighting From Spotlight Sound
A few practical reasons clients work with us:
- We use rubber-cable LED festoon — suitable for outdoor use and long event days, rather than decorative-only kit
- Installation is included as standard — we don’t drop off bags of cable and leave you to figure it out
- Our crews are experienced outdoor installers — they know how to plan runs around trees, marquees, paths, and audience flow
- Clean de-rig — we come back and clear everything, including the poles and ground fixings
- Straightforward advice on what works — if your venue would suit a different approach, we’ll tell you before quoting
How Much Does Festoon Lighting Hire Cost?
Festoon hire pricing depends on three factors: total run length, installation complexity, and event duration. As a guide:
- Small private events (short runs, simple installation): start from short-event rates with delivery and install included
- Mid-size weddings and outdoor parties (50–200m of run, standard installation): scaled by length and pole count
- Festivals and large outdoor events (extensive runs, multi-day sites): priced by site survey and total install hours
For an accurate quote, send us your venue, event date, and a rough idea of where you want festoon installed. We’ll come back within 24 hours.
How Much Festoon Lighting Do You Need?
A common planning question. As practical guidance:
- Marquee perimeter: allow approximately 1.2× the perimeter length to account for swag and slack
- Garden canopy: plan 4–6 metres per 10m² of coverage area
- Pathway lighting: plan 1 string per 20m of path, with poles every 4–5m
- Tree-strung installations: measure tree-to-tree distance and add 20% for natural drape
Our festoon comes in 20m connectable strings, so most events can be planned in 20m increments. If you’re unsure, send us your venue dimensions and we’ll spec the right configuration.

Festoon Lighting Hire FAQs
Do you supply just the festoon, or do you install it too?
Installation is included as standard with our festoon hire. Our crew does the site survey, installs the cabling and poles, makes the electrical connections, and returns to clear everything down after your event. We can supply festoon for dry hire (you collect, you install) but most clients prefer the full installed service because outdoor cable runs and pole placement take time to do properly.
What kind of festoon do you hire — is it weatherproof?
We use rubber-cable LED festoon, which is built for outdoor use. The cabling is rated for weather, the connectors are weatherproof, and the LED bulbs hold up across long days. This is different from the lower-grade decorative festoon sold in garden centres, which is fine for occasional use but not built for multi-day outdoor events.
How long is each festoon string?
Our festoon strings come in standard lengths and we make up the run to suit your venue. For a typical wedding or garden party we’d install anywhere from 30m to 100m of run; for festivals it can be considerably more. We’ll spec the right total length based on your venue layout.
Can I hire festoon for indoor events?
Yes. Festoon works indoors as well as out — it’s popular for marquee interiors, barn weddings, warehouse parties, and indoor festival-style events. The same rubber-cable festoon works fine indoors; the install is usually simpler because there’s no weather to plan around.
How far in advance should I book festoon hire?
For peak wedding-season weekends (May to September), book 8–12 weeks ahead if you can. For mid-season and shoulder dates, 4–6 weeks is usually enough. We can often accommodate shorter notice for smaller installs — get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s available.
Do you supply festoon outside Essex?
Yes. Although our base is in Chelmsford, we install festoon across the UK. Most of our work is in Essex, London, Hertfordshire, Kent, and Suffolk, but we travel further for larger events. Travel and overnight costs are factored into the quote upfront.
