The Essex Build Expo brought hundreds of construction professionals to Hylands House for a full day of keynotes, workshops and networking. We supplied the audio, lighting and a technician for the day, keeping a packed programme of speakers running clearly and on time.
The Event
The Essex Build Expo is Essex County Council’s flagship event for the county’s construction sector, run through the Essex Construction Alliance. It brings together contractors, suppliers, tradespeople and training providers for a day of keynote speakers, expert workshops, Meet the Buyer sessions and a busy exhibition floor.
The venue is Hylands House, the Grade II* listed Georgian villa in Hylands Park on the edge of Chelmsford. A beautiful setting for a business event, and one that comes with its own considerations for a technical setup.
The Brief
A business expo is a different kind of technical challenge to a single ceremony. The programme runs all day, with speakers, panels and workshops following each other back to back, and every session needs to start on time and be heard clearly by a room full of delegates.
The council needed sound and lighting for the presentation spaces, and a technician on site to run it all: managing microphones between speakers, keeping changeovers quick, and making sure the technology never held up the programme. All of it delivered with care in a listed building that was never designed with a conference in mind.
What We Delivered
We supplied the audio systems for the day, giving every keynote, workshop and Q&A clear, even sound, with microphones managed smoothly as speakers came and went. Lighting lifted the presentation areas so speakers were properly seen in a daytime venue with plenty of competing natural light.
Our technician ran the technical side throughout, from setup before the doors opened to the final session of the day, so the organisers could focus on their delegates and speakers rather than the equipment. As with all our work in heritage venues, everything was rigged and cabled with respect for the building.
The Result
A full day’s programme delivered without a hitch: sessions on time, speakers heard clearly, and one point of contact for everything technical. The event gave hundreds of construction professionals a productive day of learning and networking, and the technology simply worked, which is exactly how it should be.
We regularly support conferences, expos and business events across Essex, London and the South East, including in listed and unusual venues. If you are planning an event with a busy speaker programme, we are happy to help.
