Love-Essex brought a day of live music and open air worship to the heart of Southend. We provided the staging, sound system and technical support, building and running a stage safely in one of the city’s busiest public spaces.
The Event
Love-Essex, an initiative of the charity Transforming Essex, runs outdoor events across the county in partnership with local churches. Southend 26 took over Victoria Circus in the city centre on Saturday 12 September for a full day of live music, creative presentations and guest speakers.
New for this year was the morning’s Open Air Worship: bands and worship leaders bringing Christians of all denominations together in song, right in the middle of the city.
The Brief
The event needed a stage at the heart of Victoria Circus, built, managed and taken down safely, along with a sound system for the day’s full programme, and technical support on hand throughout.
The setting is what made this one interesting. Victoria Circus is a busy pedestrian area in the middle of Southend, with shoppers and passers-by moving through all day. Working in a populated public space raises the bar on health and safety: the build, the barriers, the cable runs and every movement of kit has to be planned around the public, not just the event.
What We Delivered
We supplied and built the stage for the event, planned and delivered with the care a live public space demands: a safe working area for the build, secure barriers, tidy cable management and a structure suited to an open air city centre site.
We also supplied the sound system for the day, set up so every word and note carried clearly across the open square while staying considerate of the surrounding businesses and public. Our technical support ran throughout, from the morning’s Open Air Worship through the full programme, so the organisers and volunteers could focus on the people in front of them.
The Result
A full day of music and worship in the centre of Southend, heard clearly across the square and delivered safely in a space shared with the shopping public from first note to pack down. The organisers had a stage and sound that simply worked, and one point of contact for the technical side of the day.
From church installations to open air worship events, we understand what worship settings need. If your church or organisation is planning an event, indoors or out, we are happy to help.
